THOMAS WILLIAMS c 1840 – 1920
MARGARET WILLIAMS c 1840 -1893
THOMAS WILLIAMS was born about 1840 in “Trydden” which was the old name of Treuddyn. He was the son of Thomas Williams a collier and Sarah and had at least 6 siblings.
Thomas married Margaret Hopwood who was also from Treuddyn and in 1868 they had twin sons Benjamin and Lemuel who both survived, the family were living in Top Y Rhos, Treuddyn where Thomas was working as a coal miner. By 1881 Thomas had given up the pits and was a commercial traveller in the tea trade.
The family with all 9 children moved to 10 Cross Street, Wrexham, where Thomas was now a grocer’s traveller.
Their daughter Alice died 25 May 1881 aged just 7, she was buried in “Tryddyn”
Thomas later had his own bakers and greengrocers shop and after Margaret died in March 1893 aged just 50 he was helped by his sons. In 1911 he was still a shop keeper at Vernon House Rhosddu.
Thomas died on 10 January 1920 and was buried with Margaret.
Harriet their daughter was born about 1870, she was still with her father in 1911, in 1916 she married William Simon in the Birkenhead area. Harriet died on 1 June 1933 aged 63 at Vernon House and was buried with her parents.
Elizabeth “Lizzie” was born about 1881, she stayed with her father and became a schoolteacher working for the County Council, and she never married and died 1 November
1946 at 6 Vernon Street. The family had been there for over 25 years.
