THOMAS LOWE c1844 – 1895
Thomas Lowe was born in the Dawley area of Shropshire, his parents were Thomas Lowe, who was a game keeper and Ann, by the time he was 18 Thomas was working as a blacksmith.
In 1867 Thomas married Esther Nicholas in Madeley, Esther was born in Bishops Castle,
and was the daughter of Richard Nicholas and Esther Ridler, her father was a mason and bricklayer with his own business. Esther had 5 elder siblings. Her father died in 1871.
They soon had a daughter, Lucette Annie born the next year and by 1881 they had moved to Bestford Square in Shrewsbury and have another child named Harry.
In 1891 they are living in Trevor Street, Wrexham, but there is no obvious reason for the move, Thomas is still a blacksmith, and they don`t have any more children with them.
Thomas Lowe died at Trevor Street on 17 February 1895, he was only 51. He left effects of £43 7s 2d
Within 6 years Esther had moved to Altrincham, and by 1901 she has opened a confectioner’s shop, Lucette and Harry are assisting her. Ten years later both mother and daughter are still running a bakery and cake shop at 24 Kingsway. Harry was visiting his Aunt Elizabeth Nicholas in Bishops Castle., he was still a baker.
Esther died on 12 September 1916 at the same address, she left effects of £305 12s 2d, so had not made a fortune out of the business.
Harry married in 1917 to Alice Gertrude Holt at Bucklow, his sister Lucette Annie died 28 December 1917 aged 48, and she left effects of £639 19s 10.
Thomas, Esther and Lucette Annie are all buried in Wrexham Cemetery, also with them is Esther`s sister Mary who had married James Lloyd, he was a news agent in 1891 when they were still in Shrewsbury. Mary died 16 March 1896 at Esther`s home in Trevor Street.
Harry was still a baker in 1939, and when he died in 1956 he left effects of £5459 19s 7d so had made a success of the bakery.
